  12. This file may be freely distributed as long as it remains intact, with

  14. modifications, additions, or deletions.

  16. DISCLAIMER:
  17. I assume no responsibility for damage or inaccuracies contained in this
  18. document. In other words, USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. It worked for me,
  19. however I don't know if it will work for you.
  20.  
  21. WARNING #1: This mod requires the ability to remove surface mount
  22. diodes.
  23. Only those who are qualified to do this should attempt this mod.
  24.  
  25. WARNING #2: This mod seems to erase all memory channels, etc. You may
  26. want
  27. to save this info for reprogramming.
  28.  
  29. Disassembly:
  30. 1. Face the front of the radio towards you.
  31. 2. Remove the three screws in a row across the middle of the top of the
  32. radio.
  33. 3. Remove the two screws at the top rear (on the sides) of the radio.
  34. 4. Pry the top cover off from the back.
  35. 5. Disconnect the speaker at the connector.
  36.  
  37. Modification:
  38. 6. Near the top rear of the main circuit board, there is an small,
  39. oblong
  40. metal can. Directly below the right side of this can is two surface
  41. mount
  42. diodes with a white silk-screened box around them. There is also what
  43. appears to be a circuit board part number just to the left of it (mine
  44. says
  45. B4916D). Remove the LEFT diode in the box.
  46. 7. To the left of this, there is a test point marked CP3. Just to the
  47. left
  48. and above this test point is another box with two *vertically* mounted
  49. surface-mount diodes (Note: there is also a place for 5 more
  50. *horizontally*
  51. mounted diodes, with 3 installed). Remove the LEFT vertically oriented
  52. diode.

  54. Reassembly:
  55. 8. Reconnect the speaker.
  56. 9. Put the top cover back on. Insert the top cover tabs into the slots
  57. and
  58. lower into position.
  59. 10. Replace all of the screws.

  61. My radio did not require a reset, however I did lose all of my channel
  62. memories. It seems to be able to transmit everywhere except below .5
  63. Mhz. I
  64. have not tested the power output at all frequencies yet.

  94. For first, my circuit board part number is B4916F, i don`t understand you
  95. what diodes i must cut off, explain me, my smd diodes looks like this:

  110. Diode: 6 is not instaled

  112. My version is with Tone 1750Hz, European i think, RX 30kHz-200MHz, TX in
  113. amateur bands only,
  114. the serial number if needed is: 02101 buyed in 18.06.97 as new in Poland.

  142. D116 and D118 are responsible for out of band TX. D115 and D119 enables
  143. RX from 30KHz to 200MHz. D113 is responsible for 6M RX and D114 is

  156. Icom IC706mkIIg mod:
  157.  
  158. Wide band transmit mod for the IC706mkIIg requires removal of diode
  159. D.2030. Remove top cover to access main board. Locate IC chip
  160. 4052C-8713. Looking at the chip and reading the number from left to
  161. right, look just left of the chip to locate 11 solder pads running up
  162. and down. Diode D.2030 was the tenth diode from the top of the solder
  163. pads on (USA Version) radio. Remove diode. This modification opens
  164. up transmit on HF, VHF, and UHF bands.
